American Academy of Pediatrics--Another 'Expert' Organization That Should Be Destroyed 1

The American Academy of Pediatrics is e prime example of a broader phenomenon: “expert” organizations’ tendency to hew the Party Line superseding their commitment to promoting the cause to which they are nominally committed.

Not long ago, I wrote about the American Heart Association coming out strongly in favor of using SNAP benefits to pay for cookies, chips, and sodas. In that case the AHA was hewing to the Party line of its funders, while in the case of the AAP the motivation is partially based on financial concerns and partially political.

I have written about the corruption of the AAP a number of times. During COVID the organization went all in on masks, and totally reversed course on the question of in-school learning one they got the word from on high that kids were going to be kicked out of schools. Pediatricians explicitly chose to back the politicians and fake public health authorities, abandoning the needs of children who were at almost no risk from COVID.

The AAP is a massive advocate of gender ideology–backing the sterilization and mutilation of children, medicalizing a mental health disorder to the great profit of hospitals and the pharma companies. They have done the same on plenty of issues, and are now recommending Ozempic–a massively expensive and profitable drug–for young children.

In its current form, the AAP is a huge booster of pharmaceutical solutions to problems that should be addressed through other forms of medical or psychological therapy. They promote the COVID vaccine for infants, despite their being at essentially no risk and despite known risks of the vaccine.

Despite there being precisely zero evidence or even reliable long-term studies on the use of therapies such as puberty blockers and hormone therapies, they promote them for gender dysphoria that is known to self-resolve in almost all cases. The Cass Review has been actively suppressed in America, and the AAP won’t even allow skeptics to present evidence at AAP-sponsored conferences.

There are very few “settled” issues in science, and almost none in medicine. Lobotomies were once considered the gold-standard treatments for a range of problems, and one day soon gender bending treatments will be viewed with the same horror with which lobotomies are today. There will be no Noble Prizes, one hopes, given for doctors who chop off the genitals of children.

We tend to assume that doctors, and hence their professional organizations, are loyal to patients over all other considerations. I think that is true for the majority of doctors, but not at all true for the organizations that inevitably get captured by a “higher purpose” or the lowest consideration: money.

The AAP threw away the needs of children during COVID, and has decided to abandon all concern for children for no other reason than loyalty to the Establishment’s whims.

This is the opposite of what they should be doing. The point of these organizations should be to advocate for the best interests of those whom they putatively represent. They actually should serve the role of advocating to policymakers as genuine scientists and experts–after all, policymakers (and members, who take guidance from organizations on issues with which they are unfamiliar) can’t be experts on everything, so getting input from credible organizations should help them develop policies with as many of the inevitable trade-offs appropriately weighed.

Captured organizations can’t do that, because their loyalties are to an Establishment, not to their putative charges. You would think that a group of pediatricians would advocate for children, but over the past few years their loyalty has been to frauds like Fauci, the teachers’ unions, and Big Pharma.

I’m not ever sure that most pediatricians have figured that out.

It’s not just that the AAP is wrong so often. Every organization or individual can get things wrong.

It’s why they are wrong: they are corrupt.
