Let me ask you a simple question: aside from knowing, in general terms, that the Trump administration has made massive cuts in USAID funding and that everybody on the left is screaming bloody murder about it, what do we know about the ins and outs of what is still going out the door in the form of foreign aid?

I ask this because I see all the horror stories about what those cuts have done to poor, desperate people in foreign lands, and my heart is not so hard that I am immune to suffering that can be avoided with some relatively simple and, for us, relatively inexpensive interventions. 

We can argue about the balance between government aid and what would and should be the long-term responsibility of private humanitarian efforts. But nobody gets bent out of shape if the US rushes humanitarian assistance to a disaster area in another country, and if, with longer-term efforts, the efforts should be transferred into private hands, there is no reason we couldn’t taper our aid to make a smooth transition to minimize suffering. 

Yet…I really don’t believe the horror stories. It’s not that I assume no errors are being made as we slash USAID funding, but I am absolutely certain that what the media and our adversaries are spoon-feeding us is pure, Grade A propaganda. 

I don’t believe this out of some reflexive “Trump and Rubio can do no wrong” belief in my team. It’s not even that I reflexively distrust what NGOs that have been living off of billions of dollars in US aid and the Trump-hostile Pravda Media tell us, although I do. 

It’s much simpler than that: if it were true, all the people who claim to care so deeply would be rushing in to fill the gaps, which are often fairly small, to keep aid flowing.

We already know that MOST of what went out the door at USAID went to NGOs that had nothing to do with humanitarian aid. We were sending billions to consultants, political groups, “independent journalists,” and the like. USAID was, primarily, a money-laundering organization with some humanitarian efforts thrown in as cover for the grift. You can see that much of the money stayed in the United States, Western Europe, and with groups that “promote democracy,” which means censorship organizations. None of those cuts harm needy people. 

USAID spent a lot of money on “color revolutions” and the like. In some countries, up to 90% of “journalists” were on the USAID payroll, and as far as I know, they are not out feeding children. 

So, if 300,000 people have died so far–an absurd number even if USAID did nothing but humanitarian aid–why aren’t all those compassionate allies around the world rushing in their own aid? Where are the calls from these NGOs for massive contributions? Why is nobody ACTING like there is a massive humanitarian crisis? Does anybody believe that the sole source of humanitarian aid is the United States? 

Really? The only people in the world–in the entire world–who care about Africans and Asians in need are Americans? If so, quit admiring other countries. They are far worse people than believed, and at worst, Trump is no worse than Macron, Starmer, and every other Western leader.

Imagine the Pravda Media doing a story about how Trump has sunk to…Emmanuel Macron’s level of cruelty. 

So…I conclude it is all a mirage. 300,000 dead in 3 months? 100,000 dead in a month? 

It’s even more absurd than that. Do people think the United States cuts checks daily for operations, and that the moment the future aid is cut off everything stops? Many of these NGOs doing the work on the ground have reserves in the hundreds of millions, and were invited to apply for humanitarian waivers immediately. Our policy is NOT to stop life-saving aid, so where are the stories of hospitals rejected waivers? Of food aid stopping immediately?

Instead, we get vague, unspecified statistics based on vapor.

All this is not to say that, upon evaluation, some of this aid shouldn’t have been cut off immediately. It is to say that anything you read about a parade of horribles happening RIGHT NOW is total bovine excrement, generated for talking points, just as the UN’s claim, since walked back, that thousands of children were literally starving to death in Gaza and would die in days. 

It was made up. Yet it and other lies are repeated endlessly, as photos of children who have suffered starvation in other countries are being shopped as Gazans starving. It is emotional blackmail, and intended to turn the money spigot on for DEI training in Guatemala or other idiocies that employ the unemployable.

It’s the same playbook that turns an MS 13 member into “Maryland Man.” 

All this adds up to a very disturbing reality: I, and very few other people, can accurately gauge what really is happening. No doubt, the Trump administration is using a cleaver that cuts off some of the meat because that is how all significant budget cuts work, but I can’t believe a single claim about unnecessary cuts because they are all motivated and spewed out without regard to the truth. 

It’s lies and hoaxes, all the way down.
