Today LA Finds Out If the County Takes Away Their Choice for NatGas Appliances 1

The climate cultists never quit in California.

Today the LA air quality gurus are set to vote on whether residents will still have to option to enjoy clean, efficient, affordable – and warm – natural gas appliances going forward to heat their water and their homes.

Because, of course, Californians shouldn’t be allowed the freedom of choice. Only the government, in its wisdom, has a choice.

New household water heaters and heating systems powered by natural gas would be phased out in the Los Angeles basin under two controversial rules that air quality regulators will vote on Friday.

Manufacturers would sell increasing percentages of zero-emission heating appliances in the four-county Los Angeles basin — beginning with 30% in 2027 — and pay fees if they sell natural gas ones, under the draft rules.

Home appliances are among the largest sources of smog-causing gases remaining in the L.A. basin, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Officials there say the measures would eliminate the second largest amount of pollutants of any rule they have enacted over the past several decades.

Consumers won’t have to switch their appliances. However, when their natural gas water heaters, central heating systems and furnaces break down and it’s time to replace them, they can choose to buy zero-emission heat pumps powered by electricity.

Yeah. Money, money, money helps move the Green grift wheel.

So homeowners wouldn’t be required to change out an existing and functioning appliance, but the second that one dies, they get you on the back end for the replacement unit. You’ll be required to eat the bugs.

…Based on the lifetime of these appliances — 25 years for heating systems and 15 years for water heaters — about 200,000 furnaces and 300,000 water heaters will be replaced annually in the region, according to the air district.

The cost of buying and installing a heat pump to replace natural gas appliances varies, depending on what people need: Replacing an entire HVAC system with a heat pump would cost consumers about the same or even less than a natural gas system, according to the South Coast district’s estimate. But installing a heat pump instead of a natural gas water heater would cost $2,000 more, and replacing just a furnace would cost $8,000 more.

And they’re smoking dope if they think a heating system lasts 25 years. An A/C and heating system around here is about 15 or so. Now, you might be able to get away with stretching that out longer there because you’d use either of them so much less than we do, but you still have salt air if you’re close to the ocean, and every day condensation eating away at internal things. Our natural gas furnace here tends to start looking worn after about five years or so, even though it only gets used in spurts of cold weather, and that’s with regular maintenance twice a year.

Quite frankly, most people can’t afford to put a premium system in. Even so, the budget minimum will set you back a pretty penny and maybe only have a 5-year or tad more warranty on it.

Then the board is forcing you to have to look at maybe enormous associated costs to swap to electric, just because the cultists have determined that it must be done?

Good gravy goodness. Not many people have that kind of cha-ching lying around.

As if living in that hellhole wasn’t expensive and restrictive enough, it always seems like they continually make it worse because they can.

Additionally, estimates are the proposed ban on natgas water heaters alone would more than double – that’s double – the demand for electricity in a state that can barely keep the lights on reliably as it is.

This is such a well-thought-out, brilliant move by the air quality board.

That the South Coast Air Quality Management Board is fussing over forcing homeowners and landlords into yet another worthless, futile, exorbitant expenditure, just as another cult induced hit to the budget is looming over Californians, tells you how divorced from reality they are.

There’s a whammy coming this summer for CA.

Hang on, Sloopy.

Communist California’s left-wing officials have made the average Californian’s life even harder by massively increasing gas taxes.

Last fall, the left-wing California Air Resources Board (CARB) authorized new regulations to go into effect this July 1 that “will limit the amount of carbon in fuel by increasing penalties for refineries that produce high-carbon diesel and gasoline,” according to San Diego station KFMB.

This new Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) regulation is expected to spike gas prices by as much as a whopping 65 cents per gallon at a time when California’s gas prices are already through the roof.

Someone in CA needs to rein in these appointed boards, no?

Or at least cut the number of them in half.

As far as the South Coast Air Quality Board, there is one item they’ve overlooked in their zeal to save the Earth. That’s the change in administration.

There was a specific Executive Order, if I remember correctly, that dealt with Americans having the freedom to choose the energy source they preferred for their home appliances.

Luckily for Los Angeles residents, the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Essayli, had the precise EO number at hand. That worked out great because he wasted no time firing off a ‘NOT SO FAST‘ letter to the chair of the South Coast Air Quality Management Board.

I WOULDN’T DO THAT IF I WERE YOU

The very first comment on Essayli’s Xweet is, ‘I voted for this.

Holy smokes, didn’t we all?

And about time.
